I received this book as a Goodreads Giveaway and thoroughly enjoyed it, although I was a little confused throughout. It is the fifth book in a series and I haven't read the other books. As a result, I would not consider this book an easy stand-alone read. I was able to figure out who was who and eventually what the characters referred to, but it took a while.
Cassandra is a sorceress who lives a simple life in Alabama trying to forget the non-human demon hunter who abandoned her nearly two hundred years before. Duncan wants her back and has to battle werewolves and demons to break through her defensed. He gets a little help from a shape-shifting ogre, an albino sasquatch named Sugar, and an animated hero statue of a peanut 'feller to mention a few.
I was concerned at first by Duncan's very formal speech pattern followed by Alabaman red neck. It wasn't until I realized that Duncan is an inter-dimensional being who uses a "Provider" in his head which acts as an interpreter that I began to enjoy the differences. I also don't speak Alabaman red neck very well, so some of the phrases were lost on me as well as Duncan.
Overall, a fun read which I may revisit in the future. I LOVE the title. I'll check into the rest of the series and see where that leads me.
