Demon Hunting with a Sexy Ex

Demon Hunting with a Sexy Ex By Lexi George 3 stars I received this book as a Goodreads Giveaway and thoroughly enjoyed it, although I was a little confused throughout. It is the fifth book in a series and I haven't read the other books. As a result, I would not consider this book an easy stand-alone read. I was able to figure out who was who and eventually what the characters referred to, but it took a while. Cassandra is a sorceress who lives a simple life in Alabama trying to forget the non-human demon hunter who abandoned her nearly two hundred years before. Duncan wants her back and has to battle werewolves and demons to break through her defensed. He gets a little help from a shape-shifting ogre, an albino sasquatch named Sugar, and an animated hero statue of a peanut 'feller to mention a few. I was concerned at first by Duncan's very formal speech pattern followed by Alabaman red neck. It wasn't until I realized that Duncan is an inter-dimensional being...

Ella, The Slayer and the Serenity House series

Ella, The Slayer and the Serenity House Series By A. W. Exley **** 4 stars I enjoy a fun historical romance, especially when it has its fill of fantasy. In this case you have the Turned, or Vermin. Yes, folks, we are talking about zombies here. Now I don't typically seek zombie stories but I've enjoyed another series by this author (which I will discuss another time), so this one caught my eye. I also have a slight fascination with retold fairy tales. So here we have the Serenity House series: Ella, The Slayer (Cinderella) Henry, The Gaoler (Rapunzel) Alice, The Player (Alice in Wonderland) Rory, The Sleeper (Sleeping Beauty) Set in Edwardian England at the close of the first world war, Ella is a young woman who survives by her wits and her katana. The sword was left by her father, who returned from the front in a catatonic state, and is now used to dispatch vermin. (I want a katana!) In her spare time, she must serve her stepmother and stepsisters who have taken ...

Rules? Guidelines? Miscellaneous?

Somewhere, someway, someone established the idea of a rating system. I don't know about you but I don't think in terms of rating stuff. However, I guess I must if I'm going to review books, movies or anything else that strikes my fancy. What is a five star? How does a five star compare to a four star? I don't know. Wish I did, that would make a huge difference. I do know that even the five stars are far from perfect. If I have to make a distinction, a four star will get reread many times (sometimes hundreds of rereads because that's what I do) and a five star will get entire fantasies created for my brain's entertainment. If I read either a four or a fiver on Kindle, then I am probably putting a print copy on my wish list. A three star means "okay, I've read that. Nice. Interesting. Might read again when I've forgotten certain elements." If a three star is part of a series, I might or might not continue with the next book. A three-bie proba...
I am a native Texan who started reading shortly after birth, thanks to a serious literary addiction which runs in the family. I'd rather read than sleep, but then I get even more cranky so let's move on. I started writing seriously in 2013 and started my first blog,  TexasNSanity , on my birthday in 2014. In 2015, I self-published my first book baby,  If You Touch My Mind , a contemporary romance set in Texas. The sequel,  Keep Your Eyes On Me , was delivered in 2016.  Healer  is a fantasy romance and the first of a trilogy will be out as soon as I finish editing (which will be soon, I promise). There are other novels in the wings, waiting impatiently for their time to come forth. You can expect all of my books to contain at least one of the following: fantasy or some reason why 'this can't happen in real life' (that's the way I like my movies, too), family names, family stories, or family objects. (My mother has genealogy research dating back to before...
